Embroidery Back Stitch

BACK STITCH

 

Back stitch is an easy and useful embroidery stitch for beginners. You can make many different patterns in backstitch. These stitches form lines and are most often used to outline shapes and to add detail to pictures. It is also a good stitch for many other small hand-made projects. Also, it can be used for writing.

  • EQUIPMENT : Appropriate fabric (linen, aida cloth, silk, calico, cotton, satin, velvet, dress fabric, etc.),  embroidery string in different/demanded colors, scissors, embroidery needle, Embroidery pen and embroidery hoop.

 1-Attach your fabric into your embroidery hoop. Make sure your fabric is tight inside the hoop and smooth without wrinkles. Tighten the hoop around your fabric if necessary.

2-Draw the line that you will follow on your embroidery project onto fabric by embroidery pen.

3-Pass your needle from back to front with thread on the start point which is the beginning of the line that you had drawn.

4-Complete your first stitch by passing your thread back through your fabric at the entry point 1 of your traced line. The distance between start point and entry point 1 will be your step and we will keep the distance for following stitches.

5-Pass your thread through the fabric from back to front, with an equal step distance in front of your first stitch (Start Point 2).

6-Tighten the  thread on the back and insert the tip of your needle through Return Point. Just near to entry point 1 on your fabric.  From front to back of your fabric. Tighten the tread.

7-Pass your thread through the fabric from back to front, with an equal step distance in front of your second stitch (Start Point 3).

8-Tighten the  thread on the back and insert the tip of your needle through Return Point 2. Just near to Start Point 2 on your fabric.  From front to back of your fabric. Tighten the tread.

9-Repeat steps 7 and 8 as much as you need to follow trace line.

10-The last step will as step 8; insert the tip of your needle through Return Point x. Just near to Start Point x on your fabric.  From front to back of your fabric. Tighten the tread.
